Beginning their new EP in hyperactive fashion, Ocean of Another immediately tell the listener that they sit on the heavier side of metalcore yet have some surprises up their sleeves. Namely odd flashes of electronica that certainly change things up, but not necessarily in a good way. A shame, as aside from those two moments, this is a track that goes really hard and has big anthemic moments.

Variety is something that Ocean of Another clearly want to show off here as the next track, the title track, has more melody, clean singing, and some really cool sounding synth. It’s a side to them that I find to be very appealing, and this is a great track, especially as it has these heavy flareups too.

Whereas CTRL+S blends punchy metal moments with even more garish electronica, Make Me Disappear leans even further into pop territories with its overpowering synth, and Overload showcases drama and ion in memorable fashion. All good stuff but notably lacking in the heavy department overall.

Finally, it’s This High Makes Me Feel Alive, a track that has plenty of vitality in it, moments of intense heaviness, and some really fun hyper-synth focused moments. It’s the EPs most anthemic track, and a highlight overall. Alongside what came before, it’s clear that Ocean of Another are talented and imaginative, even if the music can be a little unfocused at times.
