Horror Short Review: Moonstruck (2023)

There’s something wrong with the moon. Whatever you do, don’t look at the moon.

Now that’s a tagline to get the attention. Written and directed by Alan Seawright, Moonstruck stars Shona Kay, Jonathan Decker, and Audrey Seawright.

A woman is woken up late one night by her phone blowing up with messages. Something crazy is going on and it seems to be related to the moon. The terrifying instructions couldn’t be clearer, do not look at the moon.

What has happened and what does all of this mean? That’s not what Moonstruck looks to explore, rather it localises this event to a small family, showing us what happens to a person when they look at the moon. It’s very well done, highly cinematic, and extremely creepy. The kind of interesting story that could be built upon and turned into something so much bigger.

It’s an exciting watch that builds tension effectively, paying off the investment in intense fashion. Check it out yourself, below, but whatever you do, don’t look at the moon.
