EP Review: Övervåld – Vigarv (Self Released)

Fronted by the fierce Rebecca Holm, alongside Joachim Lyngfelt (Crawl, ex-Decomposed) and Peter Engström (ex-Setherial), the Swedish death metal force Övervåld return with their new four-track EP, ‘Vigarv’. Out on April 20th, 2025.

Do you like your death metal to sound drenched in blood, ooze darkness, and have a primordial feel? If the answer is yes, good news, Övervåld are back and with a four track EP to sate a thirst for the extreme.

There’s not a whole lot to say here. Övervåld deliver a meaty and manic fusion of the classic HM-2 sound with downright brutish blackened edges. It’s furious and feral, and across its four tracks, it pulverises the mind. A thoroughly enjoyable showcase of this sound, even with the rawer style that Övervåld do so well.

Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not setting the world alight, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a banger. Classic death metal with a black twist played by a band who embody the style and sound. What is there to complain about with that? Shut up and bang your head, I am.

Övervåld – Vigarv Track Listing:

1. Förruttnelse
2. Lögnarnas Tempel
3. Vigarv
4. Smärta Som Belöning
