1. How did you get started as a band?

Greymarch was born of the pandemic as my (Cody Hess) solo project that I’ve been meaning to get around to for years. I was in bands previously that toured heavily with acts like All That Remains, Ice Nine Kills, and Atreyu, but when quarantine threw a wrench in that whole side of the music industry, I started anew!

2. How would you describe your sound?

I would call it a dynamic, engaging and highly-accessible brand of modern metalcore. Greymarch uses a lot of aggressive riffing with soaring melodic injections and explosive breakdowns to put out a lyrical message of things in the world that need to change.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Wage War and Fit For A King have definitely heavily influenced my style, as I’m sure is no big surprise. Their blend of heaviness and melody with meaningful lyrics has been really inspiring.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

I’d say it’s helped. The ability to get your music out there without the gatekeepers and business execs has yielded so much amazing independent music. Sure, with that the sheer volume of music to discover and enjoy has seemingly grown exponentially, since almost anyone can do it. And that makes it harder to get noticed. But ultimately I think its been a positive shift in the industry for the artists to have more ability and control with their own music.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Beyond doing my best to be a dedicated husband and father, I do a ton of woodworking when I’m not writing music. I’ve been doing it for years, and much of the time my best musical ideas pop in my head when I’m in the shop building something.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

Greymarch is set to continue the approach of consistently releasing new music, about every month or so, and following that up with whatever content makes it have a bigger impact. Although touring has been a huge thing for me in the past, these days I want to be at home with my family.
